Ahh, it was a much, much hated storyline during the 90s. Sold like hot-cakes initially, but turned into a complete and utter mess that's been ingrained as a hallmark of what happens when sales guys run comics.

Spiderman's pop culture. Knowing intimate details about failed Spiderman characters and plots, however, is geek.

It's not really intimate details, I'd say know stuff about failed characters and plots would be g33kish if they were small-fry characters, but the whole disaster took place over three years. It was a very public cock-up. Think it achieved quite a bit of exposure in the American daily news too.

When it gets to that level of the press giving you a hounding for failed plots, it's pop culture.

Clone Story. The Spiderman from various dimensions was a 'tribute' (read: parody) that the cartoon used to basically rip the piss out of the whole situation.

When a cartoon based on your own comics is given you a hammering over the quality, you know it was a complete joke.
