All I can say is that it was a step up from the appalling N64.
Problem was Nintendo forgot to give it any software until the end.

i thought it was the other way. some great games to begin with but it really dried out towards the end.

People is fools, innit. I bought a gamecube late on in its lifespan, but I still loved it. It's full of over-looked gems. I'm even an out-and-out Mario Sunshine fan. Obviously it's not a patch on Galaxy or 64, but it's still a quality game.
And speaking of the 64...

speaking of Sunshine, i've still never completed that. it's too bastard hard!

Me too... some of the Pokemon games were fucking awesome, haha, Pokemon Snap! I remember playing a 007 game a hell of a lot on the 64, too, but I can't renmember which.

That's the one! I was always interested in getting an N64, but I followed the Sega/Sony route. I'm a Microsoft guy now, though.

I was sort of the same, I always considered myself a Sega/Sony guy, but through the magic of early-life-divorce I still always had a Nintendo console at hand to compliment what I considered my 'true' gamerbox. By the time I got my 'cube though something clicked and I accepted the light of Nintendo into my life.
...and yeah, now I have an Xbox too. Such is life.

Cool... in that generation I chose the PS2 first, but I later got an Xbox too. Both consoles were cool.
I prefered the Dreamcast to the Gamecube, really. It's two main flaws were the lack of original games and no DVD drive, but games like Shemnu were awesome! And Dreamcast had the best controllers ever.

And mario galaxy has awesome physics manipulation and imaginative design, LBP has the best user created content aspect seen in a game by a huge margin.

You should give them a go.
The other day I played a LBP level someone had created of silent hill....and it actually managed to be quite scary, mostly cause they'd gotten the sound just right.

Cool. Actually, that game does sound quite good. My girlfriend has it, when I see her later I'll give it a raz.
