Fancy Dress

My mate is having a Hen Party (*sigh*) and is currently mad on the theme of fancy dress with the title 'American Characters'.

My mind is a total blank aside from Annie Hall. I'm open to suggestions if anyone feels they can better this.

Stipulations:
1) Nothing overly revealing
2) Nothing that will cost too much money
3) Nothing that'll make me look like a complete tit

We're going for an outfit which involves enough effort that I'm not being a spoilsport, but not so much that I look like I belong at a Hen Party.

NOTE: posting 'sexy' fancy dress costumes is so imbecilicly* obvious, it will be just ignored. Also note I felt obliged to veto Sylvia Plath, though believe me I was tempted.

Cowgirl type thing is a backup because I've been known to wear a red gingham shirt and hessian-ish skirt dungarees before anyway.

Olive Oyl would be considered. But there is a fair amount of effort involved.

Don't listen to Tink, when the stripper turns up she'll be on him like a facehugger.
