I'm flirting with the idea of buying the Orange Box. What do you reckon? Bare in mind I've never played Half-Life before. Will I still enjoy playing Part 2?

hell yeah. bear in mind i've never played half-life 2 without playing half-life.
i'd recommend seeing if you can get a copy of half-life running on your pc and playing that, but if you can't, 2 is not really an immediate continuation of the story as far as the storyline and characters are concerned. all you really need to know can be summed up in this sentence:
science goes wrong and aliens come to the place where gordon freeman works/earth.
although the start of the game will be confusing if you haven't seen the end of the 1st, so if you don't intend to play hl1, a read of the plot on wiki should fill you in on any details i left out of my sentence.
gotta be worth a pop for the price it goes for nowadays, anyway.

Those videos were bloody brilliant.
I'm guessing I get no points for betting you go for the Sniper? I'm pretty sure I'd be the Scout He seems like a douche, but he appears to combine stealth with shotguns. My two FPSing passions.

I hated snipes...they basically did nothing but try and snipe other snipers.

Am I to assume that should I buy the Box there wouldn't be much online activity for this anymore?

probably. haven't tried it for a while, though.
even when it first came out it used to take me ages to find a game to connect to, but the games are quite lengthy so once you have found a game, you're set for a while.

Meet The Spy has been my fave of the lot so far.
That said, all I ever use is Pyro, Soldier, Scout and Medic. I went through a Sniper phase but once everybody learnt the areas, it was a case of jumping out and shooting someone who's already waiting for you.

Is that basically a pop at the fact that TF2 snipers do nothing but snipe at other snipers?
