Your company would lose customers.

Just don't offer the woman an interview if her qualifications suggest she's no better than a male candidate. Don't reply to her application.

My company would be snazzy.

It depends on the size of the company, small businesses can't afford maternity pay and the temporary replacement, however bigger businesses can!

For all we know the woman might be amazing at her job, have a kid for a year, then come back and be amazing at her job, more amazing than the guy could ever be!

Also men get paternity leave aswell now, not as much but he'd still be out for a while!

I thought the average age a mother is at conception of her first child was closer to late 20s, if not the early 30s now? I know it's a rising figure.

For me, it'd depend on the role, and who else is currently employed in the same department.

I think I'd look at the people he/she would be working with, as I am a Sister of Solidarity and would have to ignore the above in my decision.

hm... my mum had my older sister when she was 31.... also, I assume you know it's illegal to not hire a woman for these reasons, etc. at least in the US it is....

Yes, but if someone applies to you for a job and you simply don't respond to them, there's nothing they can do.

well, I'm way too tired to get into a debate about it right now, so I guess the answer to the thread for me is what elpran said to begin with - whoever seemed like a more genuin and likable person.

If women wanted equality they shouldn't have invented tampons.

That's what I think, anyway.

Women want equality until they need help carrying something or don't want you farting and talking about football in their presence.
