| Of course it's likely just to cause more tension. | |

| The first sentence is inherently provocative, in that believers are likely to argue that the probablility of God existing isn't something that we know how to accurately quantify.

Still, quite a bit shorter than an essay on how, philosophically, a valid belief system would not involve God.

Fucking LOL. I think what he means is, that whilst those who are believers will sometimes choose to be preached to, they still won't want people who believe otherwise to proselytise.

| Paxman's a pompous ass. If the gong goes when he's just read a question, he never lets the viewers at home know the answer. Or the studio audience for that matter. | |

I think what he means is that nobody takes well to having forcefully spoken opinions pushed on them. But in his opinion it's good for them if the "preaching" is Christian.

| My one major gripe with religion is its redundancy when used as a tool for explanation. Why is it easy for some people to believe that something must have created the Universe and yet nothing created the thing which created the Universe? | |

That's not just a gripe. That's a solid reason for ignoring pretty much everything that religion conjectures. None of it is falsifiable or gets us anywhere.

That really annoys me, too. I guess we could use the modern marvel of the Internet to find out. Perhaps if our minds were active enough to do that we'd know more of the answers in the first place?

That's not just a gripe. That's a solid reason for ignoring pretty much everything that religion conjectures. None of it is falsifiable or gets us anywhere. There's nothing stating that the creation of the Universe was an efficient process, though, I just wonder why Religious types use inefficiency as one of the bases for their reasoning.

| Ironically, the existence of God is something that seems to worry Richard Dawkins more than most people. I wish he'd just shut up and get on with his life like most of us instead of trying to be some sort of anti-spiritual philanthropist. | |

I guess it is kinda bigoted for him to worry when he thinks that most of the world's population are brainwashed into not thinking independently, and organisations that have caused and continue to cause massacres are vastly powerful. Oh wait...

Oh wait... That's not true, though. Most people in the West now are either non-believers or agnostics, though there are bound to be some people that believe in God (there are a few million of us) and in Eastern countries belief is an inherently cultural thing.

in the United Kingdom, the 2001 census revealed over 70% of the population regarded themselves as "Christian" with only 15% professing to have "no religion".
