What videogame are you playing?

ghosts are scarier than most other things. i don't really see the appeal of scary games/films tbh. being scared is unpleasant. why would you want it?

I don't get it either, most of the time.

I did play another 5 minutes of Bioshock last night, though. I got to after the flooding hallway bit where a bad man attacks you and you have to shock him and hit him.

I was too emotionally drained to carry on afterwards.

Thats pretty damn pathetic.

Keep going, once you've got some weapons and plasmids you'll not feel quite so scared.

..that said, i do enjoy a certain amount of scariness. but it's the surviving more than the horror of survival horror that i enjoy. when the situation is made tense because of having to manage your limited resources/ammunition more than because there's a monster/ghost/alien around the corner. you know?

if you're going to play this game in 5 minute chunks, you'll never get to play the sequel.

I dunno. I like playing horror games because it's a melting pot of ideas. You got your stategy, the odd puzzle and if you're lucky...a decent story.

As for being scared...fuck knows why I do it to myself. I just feel a bit more manly if I can get through something like this:

It's not the lack of supplies that scares me, Jason. I have a wrench - that works fine. It's just a very atmospheric game, and I get very involved.

I know this, but when you can set people on fire and the shoot them in the face with a grenade you don't feel quite as worried....

Maybe not, but when I can't see those people until they emerge from behind me screaming about eating my kidneys... I worry.

it is a very atmospheric/involving game. and the way the basic enemies seem to have distinct personalities (at least until it starts throwing waves of them at you) was one of the things that impressed me most about it. the way you overhear them talking to themselves or bickering with each other about their own issues makes you feel their deaths much more than most games grunts.
