It makes perfect sense if you understand it. I think you would cut things down with mates, if you had any.

my mate bought a little axe and we spent the day lounging with beer and spliffs at the bottom of his garden taking turns hacking at a knackered tree. it was great fun.

I didn't, maayan and frazer refered to it as a brass instrument, I just said it was made mostly of brass, which wiki said it was.
