Also, Hippo - disagree about RPGs dying out with 3D, Skies of Arcadia is one of the best, if not THE best game I've ever played.

I sorta mean proper 3D....I mean FF7 was 3D, but once you got to the PS2/xbox years the RPG suffered, and now its really a bit dead on its arse.

The ps2/xbox gen was, indeed, a bad time for RPGs. However, the 360 has brought them to life again. So many good RPG's for the 360...

Not really, the xbox just has a mish mash of RPG's that are mehish.

The problem is that RPG's have always had this need to search every corner for every little item...you add large 3DF worlds to that and you'll soon get pissed off.

You said that you had only read reviews, which is never an accurate way of judging a game.

About Nintendo, though, it really suffered in the last generation with the Gamecube, being the third most popular (losing to Sony and Microsoft, natch) and now it's the same again with the Wii. I'm suprised the Gamecube didn't bankrupt Nintendo completely.

I don't get that. Especially when the R&D and productions costs were significantly lower per hardware unit compared to the other two as well. Madness.

Ever been to a games shop? The PS3/Xbox shelves are always huge, filled with a vast selection of games. Wii always gets a little dinky corner, with about 10 games in it. The money it's made is purely from those competitions and such, if you look at 'units sold', the figures will be a LOT different

Erm...fac t is wii's made the most money.

Both sony and microsoft made losses on the consoles themselves, and the cost of making games means that unless a game is a smash hit then they don't really make THAT much money, whats more sony and microsoft will only make significant amounts of money on games THEY make, and nintendo are the daddies of inhouse games.

But it's still sold twice as many units as the playstation. Clearly the unpopular console.

I suggest you perhaps go read the dictionary, and check some definitions out to see your error.

Or the PS3 may of come out later.....just a possibility...

That's hardware shipped, I don't think anyone can really claim that 12.5 million Wii consoles were given away in competitions/offers. That's preposterous. All I know if for the best part of the first 18 months, the Wii was constantly out of stock due to the demand.

And it'd be a 'minority' of the previously existing gaming population circa Xbox/PS2/GC era - and doesn't take into account the new gaming population, directly expanded huge amounts by the Wii and DS.

You can't even argue that, it's been so widely reported.

It makes most of its money from family games and competitions. Sony and Microsoft make their money from selling games and consoles. Wii's steam can only last so long, and it's popularity is biggest in Japan and America. In the UK, the Wii is by FAR the worst seller of the three. The PS3 is still new, too, so give that time.

You're not part of the conversation, just go. A dictionary? Maybe you need to look in the dictionary and look up "dictionary."

Nintendos really sorted their act out with the DS and wii, they've found a whole area that sony and ESPECIALLY microsoft couldn't hope to find.

What a pity, it's the biggest seller in the two biggest gaming territories. Shigsy and co must be GUTTED.

Not to mention Nintendo probably have a slightly different strategy to UK sales - they've always seen the whole of the EU as one territory. Awfully flawed for us, but when you look at EU comparative sales, last lot I saw still showed Nintendo leading the way across the continent, so it probably works financially.

Give it time, the whole "family gaming" thing is a fad. Nothing else. And like I said, the PS3 is new - give it time.

That's because Microsft don't really develop Japanese games.

But its got all those great RPG's and the Japanese love a good rpg...

Microsoft have recently teamed up with Sqaure for some RPGs, but that's very recent. They don't have many Japanese games at all, most of their RPGs are American. But still good
