| i haven't advanced the story particularly far for the time i've spent on it. my advice is to just pick a direction and start walking, but then i am something of an excessive explorer on games that'll let me, so i would say that.
it's pretty tough out in the wastes to begin with until you manage to stock up on ammo/health/weapons/skillz/caps. i remember the first few hours it felt like a bit of a struggle to survive, as getting from one point to the next of a quest left your health and ammo pretty much gone. gets easier, though.

| I'm the same with games like this. I feel compelled to explore it all. The more to discover, the more you get for your money, but the more you feel lost. It's a tragedy when you miss things | |

| i'm kind of alright with missing things, in a general sense. you're aware that it's too big to see everything, and i like when it's impossible to see everything because of choices you've made. in a specific dungeon or town, however, i'm not leaving till every room and alternate corridor has been thoroughly ransacked and looted of valuables. | |

| Definately. I'm still slowly routing through BioShock, but with Fallout 3, I can sense a much wider environment. Can't wait for the killing though.
Would you recommend Oblivion (and any other similar games)?

| I loved the way Fallout 3 just plunged you in the deep end after the Vault though.
After you accomplish the goal of escaping there's that sense that's you've only just begun and you think..."Okaaaaaay. What now? I guess I'll goooooooo....that way? No. That way...."
I don't think it's toot bad though because they put a bombed out town in sight and when you go to that you can pick out another location and then another until you find Megaton. I thought that was a quite subtle guide on the developer's behalf.
By the way, the 2nd quest you'll probably encounter is Those! (the fire ants). It's very difficult and it takes pretty much most of the first half of the game to do, so don't worry too much about it.

i didn't really get on with it. i found it boring, in comparison, though i think a lot of that was to do with the setting: post-apocalyptic wasteland > generic fantasy. i'm definitely in the minority, though and you will certainly see the similarities. so if you can stomach playing through 'same old fantasy bullshit land #165' then definitely give it a go. it's cheap enough nowadays, anyway.

| I already 60 odd hours and explored over 100 locations, mun!
I was bored of searching by that point! Turned out that I actually walked past several bobbleheads on my adventures too. I just wanted to finish the game by that point.
One of them is that weird HP Lovecraft-esque building in the South East. Don't play that bit at night...it's actually quite creepy.

| I came across Vault 106 and I'm having some sort of flashbacks or something. Anyone tell me what's happening without spoiling any plots? | |

| If it's the one I'm thinking of then it's Vault where they pumped a gas through the vents that made everyone go crazy and kill eachother. You get a better idea of the story if you hack the computers. Be sure to pick up the violin in there. You need it for the quest Agatha's Song (she's somewhere slightly east of the middle of the map if I remember). - ReDfEsTeR wrote:

Let me guess...it's the one in DC, right? That guy is a nightmare to find; I think i spent 2 hours trying to get to this one area. You have to use all these sewers and train stations since you can't reach him above ground (he's hidden away in this little area you can't reach from anywhere).

| I crept into Springvale School and used my silencer to explode a guys head. Then I stole some food and ran away.
I'm going to go back in and explode his friends too, but it was all too exciting for one burst.

| is it the silenced 10mm pistol you're using? i dumped mine. seemed too difficult to get stealth kill enemies and if you failed you just had a 10mm pistol to fight whatever you'd just pissed off.
also, springvale school was the first place i explored.

| Save the 10mm Silenced though. You can combine it with a normal version if you need to repair (though once you find the machine gun version, it's pretty redundant except for accuracy). I was looking at your achievements...Banth...Gonch...you got a loooooong way to go to catch up to me. I'm not even going start with you about Splinter Cell: DA, Banth. But Seagal told me he's dissapointed with the lot of you. | |
